Oceania Countries and their Capitals
Oceania is the smallest continent of our planet. It is in a continental
group consisting of 14 countries and includes Pacific islands and
Australia. Often Australia is named as continent. The largest island of Oceania
is Australia. This continent spreads over a vast area from 28 degrees
North in the northern hemisphere to 55 degrees South in the southern
hemisphere. The biggest and the most populous city of Oceania is Sydney, it is
in Australia. More than 5 million people live in this city. The
highest mountain on land is Mount Cook in New Zealand. Oceania is home to
many animal species. In Australia, the largest country of the continent, you can
find marsupials. Marsupials are mammals that carry their young in their pouch.
Among them are kangaroos, possums, wombats and koalas. A large variety of birds
also live in Oceania such as the Australian kookaburra or the colorful
kingfishers and the birds-of-paradise. Most of the people in Oceania are Christians. Rugby
is the most popular sport in the region. It is the national sport in
New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji. In Australia, the national sport is
cricket.
